Today, friday Sept. 16th, preparations for the move of the Berlin Buddhist Gate to the new vicinity, the grounds of the former hospital 'Am Urban' have started. The start took the form of an outdoor-meditation on the lawn in front of the Vivantes-hospital, situated at the 'Urbanhafen' in Kreuzberg. From now onwards, little by little, we will prepare the shift of our 'spiritual point of gravity' from our current rooms in Mitte to the new place in Kreuzberg. The actual move will take place (all being well) in the summer 2012.
Outdoor - meditation at the Urbanhafen will now take place every friday at 1pm. Everybody is welcome to join. Please bring your own meditation gear. |

For monday evening, august 22nd., Mokshasiddha had invited our future neighbours (i.e. the co-owners of house no.12), the architects, and project-managers for a drink into our future premises.
Celebrated was the commencement of the actual building-works on this coming Wednesday (all being well). The last hurdles, like the re-location of the former taxt stand in front of building, being cleared now, the contractors will now set up the building site and erect scaffolding outside the building.
The photo shows Mokshasiddha (2nd from right) with some of our future neighbours. |

On Sunday, 31st July in the basement of House 12 of the former Urban Hospital in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, Amogharatna laid the foundation stone of the new premises for the Triratna centre in Berlin, known as The Buddhist Gate. Over thirty people gathered around a shrine decorated with candles and tea lights in the middle of the vaulted cellar, below the planned large shrine room, to celebrate the ritual together.
It was the second of a series of five planned rituals during the refurbishment of the premises, which was purchased two years ago. Each ritual will be dedicated to one of the five archetypal Buddhas. This ritual was dedicated to Akshobhya.
Dharmapriya gave a short talk about the significance of Akshobhya, imaginatively evoking the presence of the blue Buddha sitting on his lotus throne supported by elephants, silent and immovable in the first rays of the rising sun. Akshobhya is associated with the water element, so the recent spell of extremely wet weather was especially appropriate.
During the recitation of the Akshobhya mantra, offerings were placed in a casket on the shrine. Among other items, the casket contained the front page of that day’s newspaper, the latest centre programme, several dozen cards of well-wishing from members of the sangha and others from around the world, and a vajra blessed by Sangharakshita.
During the Puja, which was led by Amogharatna, the casket was bricked up in a recess in the wall to the accompaniment of three hearty “sadhus”.
Building work on the new centre is due to begin in August. |

Thirteen years ago Sangharakshita opened the Triratna centre in Berlin. He gave a short talk about the significance of the centre's name 'the Buddhist Gate'. This talk has now been published in order to help raise funds for the renovation of the recently purchased new Buddhist Gate. While referring specifically to the name of the Berlin centre, the talk is of universal relevance as it relates to the significance of Buddhist centres everywhere. We are very grateful to Sangharakshita for his permission to publish his talk, and to Cornelia Siemens and Harald Eckhoff for their work in transcribing and translating the talk for publication. The bilingual booklet is available on a donation basis from Buddhistisches Tor. |

Preparations for the foundation stone ceremony on 31st July has continued. In January last year we held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the purchase and taking possession of the new premises. The ritual was dedicated to Ratnasambhava, the yellow Buddha, whose element is earth. The next ceremony, the foundation stone ceremony, will be dedicated to Akshobhya, the blue Buddha whose element is water. Beginning at 11 o’clock, the two-hour ceremony will include a seven-fold puja, during which a casket will be set in the basement of the new centre, containing mantras, cards of well-wishing from members of the Sangha in Berlin and from around the world, a vajra, and other items such as copies of the current programme and newsletter of the centre |
